Setting goals should not be a stressful event nor do the goals need to be of world-changing stature.
Change is great when you embrace it and you decide to actually start.
In life, goals come and go and once a goal has been achieved it is up to us as individuals to evolve on what we have learnt and seek new or continuing goals that support our personal growth, health and success.
Failure to achieve a goal comes down to 4 things:
- Stopping the process and no longer taking action towards the outcome.
- You did not want the goal badly enough and another priority took its place.
- You were not clear on what was required and more information is needed.
- Made a different choice and life path.
Yes, other things in life do get in the way sometimes however the fundamental reasons why our goals are hindered are due to the above mentioned. We must always take responsibility for our decisions and choices. Where there is a will, there is a way.
All of these things are ok and are acceptable reasons as long as you feel you gave it your best shot and you are where you want to be.
If not, revisit the goal, start again and/or continue the journey.
When we hit a hurdle, sometimes, we just need to realign with our desires, take a breath and keep going.
Success is always earned and success is an ongoing behaviour, not a destination.
The First Step
The first step to setting a physical fitness goal is to first understand what you really want, deep down, and decipher the difference between an outcome goal (the statement you make to yourself) and the process you are willing to take (the implemented actions that support the outcome).
Once you know your outcome goal, it is imperative to ask yourself are you willing to do what it takes to achieve it – The Process.
Are you invested emotionally, mentally and physically?
I will also add financially as that is a resistance point for many however you must invest in yourself and the professional support, if you want the best results.
Now that you are committed, visualise the outcome, the process and visualise how good it will feel to achieve the lifestyle adaption and changes.
All fitness and health goals revolve around lifestyle habits and behaviours and here alone you will find the answers to your success.
Your body is a reflection of your lifestyle, your past decisions and your past and future daily practice.
Therefore, adjust your daily routine to support your goals and success will follow in time.
Create order from chaos and all things in your life will fall into place.
