What is Tribulus?
Tribulus terrestris is a herb that has been used in the traditional medicine of China and India for centuries.
In the mid-1990s, tribulus terrestris became known in North America after Eastern European Olympic athletes said that taking tribulus helped their performance.
The active compounds in tribulus are called steroidal saponins. Two types, called furostanol glycosides and spirostanol glycosides, appear to be involved with the effects of tribulus. These saponins are found primarily in the leaf.
How does Tribulus work?
Tribulus Terrestris causes your body to release luteinizing hormone, which in turn then signals your testicles to naturally produce more testosterone. But Tribulus also prevents your body from recognizing that is producing high levels of testosterone, so your body will not try to then lower it luteinizing hormone levels. So your testosterone level stays high.
Why should you take Tribulus?
Tribulus Terrestris is a herb grown in Africa, India, and parts of Eastern Europe, and has been used for its ability to boost the production of testosterone. Various reports are given concerning the degree of testosterone elevation, ranging from 30 to 50 percent. In younger men, where the testosterone level is already normally high, it is unlikely that the percent increase of testosterone would be as great as would be seen in older men. Tribulus Terrestris is attributed with demonstrable value in athletic development, if augmented legal muscle building effects are valued. Its emerging use in North America has focused on athletic muscular and performance enhancement, and the medical sexual problems of erectile dysfunction and reduced sex drive. Testosterone is a natural endogenous muscle building compound, unlike the synthetic or illegal muscle building compounds that are associated with adverse side effects. Athletic use of Tribulus terrestris results in greater muscle mass and stamina, and facilitates muscle recovery.
What does Tribulus do?
Any male looking to increase testosterone production, sexual drive, libido, performance, increase sperm production and improve strength. For over 20 years Tribulus terrestris has been used by Eastern European bodybuilders and other athletes as an herbal approach to enhance muscle mass and performance.
Male Sexual Health and Fertility: Tribulus terrestris appears able to increase sperm count and motility, making it useful for possible physician consideration in cases of male infertility. The medical problems of impotence and failing sexual interest can stem from diminished testosterone production. And while reduced testosterone levels may be thought of as an “older man’s” problem, the condition can develop without regard to age. Clinical understanding into the nature of erectile dysfunction encompasses a combination of factors. Two central considerations are blood circulation of the penis, and/or testosterone levels. Subtle downward changes in testosterone levels can combine with micro-circulation factors to produce degrees of erectile dysfunction. Declining sexual interest could exist apart from erectile dysfunction and may respond to enhanced testosterone levels.
Bodybuilding: Because of the plants long history of use, its excellent safety record and its reputed benefits, athletes have experimented with Tribulus Terrestris extract dietary supplements to boost testosterone levels, to speed fat loss, to enhance strength, to enhance endurance and to boost muscle mass, muscle tone and overall athletic performance.
Warnings:
Consult your healthcare professional prior to use of you have or suspect a medical condition, are taking prescription drugs, or are pregnant or lactating. Tribulus Terrestris and its extracts may have a diuretic effect and may be contraindicated with other diuretic medications.
